Compassionate Leadership Training
Where gentleness grows teeth
A confession: I taught communication skills for many years before I admitted to myself that skills alone don't change much. When the going gets tough in a team, people don't need their leader's techniques. They need their leader. Present, honest, and brave enough to face what is really happening.
That is what this training develops. The ground is gentle: warmth, patience, truly seeing the people you lead. On that ground we build what I call fierce compassion: the capacity to confront what needs confronting while holding genuine care for the people involved. Leaders practice the conversations they have been avoiding, learn to own mistakes in front of their team, and discover that authority grows rather than shrinks when they do.
If you are wondering what compassionate leadership actually is, and why it is anything but soft, start with our complete guide to compassionate leadership.

What the training covers
Every program is custom-built, so we listen first to what you or your team truly needs. Most programs weave together:
- Authentic presence. Leading from who you are instead of who you think you should be, including the parts you would rather hide.
- Gentle and fierce compassion. When to hold, when to challenge, and how to do both without losing yourself.
- Psychological safety. Building a climate where people speak up, admit mistakes and take creative risks. Also available as a dedicated training.
- Difficult conversations. Feedback, boundaries and conflict, grounded in Nonviolent Communication. Confronting and connecting turn out to be the same skill.
- Your own patterns. The personal work: discovering where you get stuck under pressure, and what becomes possible when you face it.
The way of working is hands-on and experiential: practice, reflection, real-world application, drawing on Thupten Jinpa's compassion research, Kristin Neff's self-compassion, Nonviolent Communication and Deep Democracy.
We deliver this as keynotes, one- or two-day training days, or longer leadership trajectories spread over months (our preference, because the real change happens between sessions). In English or Dutch, in person or online, anywhere in the world. We have worked across the USA, Uganda, Laos, Vietnam and Europe, for organizations including KPMG, BBVA, Oxfam, AkzoNobel, NN Group, Doctors Without Borders and the International Space University.
